The Dirtbombs

Dangerous Magical Noise

The best garage rock may sound like it was slopped out in an afternoon, but the best garage rock acts still leave an impression like an asteroid impact. The Dirtbombs are one of those acts, and for anyone who thinks the White Stripes are the be all and end all of Detroit rock, check out the glorious ramshackle racket of this disc. With nods to the British Invasion, Stooges, and good ol’ fuzzy Nuggets rock, Mick Collins’ post-Gories project doesn’t disappoint with its third disc, a non-stop roar of overdriven riffs and slash and bash instrumentation, brought to the next level by Collins’ strong, soulful vocals. It’s an infectious atom bomb of foot-tapping, head-shaking music.
