My secret dream is to open a salon that would specialize in styling hair, makeup applications, and manicures and pedicures. Clients would still visit their regular salons for cuts and color, and would just come to us for finishing touches.

For now, though, you’re on your own except for Friday evenings in December when you can get spruced up and maybe do some of your holiday shopping by going to soirees at which beauty company Fresh (2040 N. Halsted St., 773-404-9776) is offering champagne, mini facials and makeup applications from 5 to 7 p.m. Fresh thinks of the soirees as its version of happy hour and we agree. Getting pretty and sipping bubbly is a great way to get into a festive mood.
Friday you’ll get a full size lipstick as a gift with purchase. On Dec. 19th you can avail yourself of the expertise of the Fresh staff to help you choose gifts. On Dec. 26, after your mini facial, you can pick out your makeup for New Year’s Eve. Fresh will ring up the items and hold a spot for you on the big night for an application.
