The 128 high school students enrolled in the culinary, pastry arts and hotel management program at the Technology Center of DuPage decided to second-guess our cookie judgment.
Instructor Faith Jennetta had the baking students make the five winning recipes from Good Eating’s 2003 holiday cookie contest, then conduct their own taste test. The students baked cookies in the morning, then held two tastings. Here are the results:
Good Eating’s winning cookies:
1st place: kolacky; 2nd: white chocolate chip cookies with dried cherries; 3rd: Grandma’s Christmas date nut bars; honorable mention: chocolate crowns and mor mors coconut cookies
Technology Center’s results:
Morning session: 1st place: chocolate crowns; 2nd: white chocolate chip; 3rd: date nut bars; honorable mention: kolacky and mor mors
Afternoon session: 1st: kolacky; 2nd: mor mors; 3rd: date nut bars; honorable mention: white chocolate chip and chocolate crowns
