A Cook County judge set bail at $1.5 million for a man who allegedly shot and killed a motorist with an assault rifle outside his Garfield Park home.

Prosecutors said Lovell Boyd, 20, of the 2500 block of West Jackson Boulevard, was selling drugs Sept. 25 near his home with an AK-47 rifle strapped to his shoulder when a man drove by.

Boyd, a gang member, fired multiple times at the vehicle, fatally wounding the driver, Anthony Jefferson, in the head, said Assistant State’s Atty. Bumjoon Park. Jefferson, of the 2600 block of West Wilcox Street, crashed into another vehicle.

Boyd was arrested Dec. 19 and charged with first-degree murder. Three witnesses identified him as the Jefferson’s killer, Park said. Boyd had two convictions for drug crimes, he said.
