Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I’ve never written to a newspaper columnist. (I’ve thought of it, but never did it.) Anyway, I just got back into Chicago for the holidays, picked up the paper and your article (“Living single: Together or apart?” by Catherine Toth, Dec. 19) caught my eye.

One of the reasons was I had just read a book called “Buyers, Renters and Freeloaders” by Willard Harley. It talked about how people who live together before marriage have a divorce rate much higher than those who don’t–about 80 percent higher.

Anyway, I guess I just had this discussion in my own life with several friends and, judging from your article, it seems that it is a topic of discussion these days. If you are interested in finding out more on this issue, check out the book.
