Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

So Pete Rose has finally admitted to gambling on baseball games. What’s the first reaction of the sports media? He wasn’t apologetic, he wasn’t contrite, he was self-serving. Oh, the gnashing of teeth and the wringing of hands. Perhaps he should get on his knees and grovel, or beg for forgiveness.

Listen, you’re not going to change Pete Rose. He is cocky and arrogant, but he also is one of the greatest players of all time. His accomplishments speak for themselves.

He may not be a role model for children, but he personified what a major-league ballplayer should be, and he wasn’t phoning his bookie when he stood at the plate and cranked out 4,256 hits. So, gentlemen, please shut up and put him in the Hall.
