It’s a tragedy that Chicago has once again gained the title of Murder Capital of the country. (“City tops N.Y., L.A. in homicides for ’03,” Metro, Jan. 3)

That’s twice in three years.

It’s even more upsetting that the people who are the biggest victims of these crimes are unable to protect themselves.

States that allow citizens to carry firearms realize a dramatic decrease in violent crime.

Why can’t Illinois have that ability?

If the first law of nature is self-preservation, why is it illegal in Illinois to protect yourself, your family and your property by any and all means possible?

A criminal bent on doing you harm will think twice if he thinks he will encounter armed resistance.
