A Cook County Juvenile Court judge on Friday terminated the parental rights of the mother of a boy who had been the focus of a nationwide missing child search, paving the way for the boy’s aunt to adopt him.
Timothy Trandel, formerly known as Eli Quick, came under the national spotlight last year when police believed he might have been a missing North Carolina boy, Tristen “Buddy” Meyers.
After a DNA test found in July that the boy’s mother was Laura Trandel and she did not want contact with him, he has been living in Downstate Anna with his aunt. Last summer, a caseworker testified that Laura Trandel was living in a van and had no known address.
