The law states a driver cannot drive for more than one-half mile in the far-left lane on highways. Pray tell how does this make the roads safer? I observed recently that this law is not enforceable. People from out-of-state do not know of this law. It will take more than one-half mile to pass someone and then get back into the right or middle lane.
During rush-hour traffic there is no way that all those cars, buses and trucks will be able to fit into three lanes when they do not fit into four.
It promotes tailgating, which is extremely dangerous at high speeds. Gov. Rod Blagojevich wasted our money on this one. It would have been better to have spent the time and money on more state police on the road. That–not an unenforceable law–would make the highways safer.
