I recently flew out of O’Hare Airport to Mexico City. I was traveling with my 14-month-old daughter. Circumstances beyond my control delayed me at the check-in counter and I had minutes to make my flight. An airline employee escorted me and my daughter to the security check-in, where we met the rudest government employees I have ever encountered. The TSA employee told me to fold the stroller and put it on the belt to be screened. I asked if he could help me while I held my daughter, he said no. I then asked if he could hold my daughter while I folded the stroller, he said no again. When I became distressed, he threatened to delay me to ensure that I missed my flight.
I understand the necessity of increased airport security and I support the efforts of our government. I don’t understand TSA employees’ complete unwillingness to help a cooperative mom navigate security. How is this protecting us from terrorism?
