A second baseball player who unsuccessfully tried out for the U.S. Olympic team has tested positive for banned steroids, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency announced. Termel Sledge, an outfielder in the Montreal Expos organization, will be barred from international competition for two years, retroactive to the October test date.
Last week, USADA officials announced that Angels reliever Derrick Turnbow had tested positive for 19-norandrosterone and 19-noretiocholanolone, the same substances that turned up in Sledge’s test. The substances are ingredients in some over-the-counter supplements and are not prohibited by Major League Baseball.
– U.S. sprinter Mickey Grimes was stripped of his Pan American Games 100-meter gold medal when USADA confirmed he had tested positive for the stimulant ephedrine.
– National champion hammer thrower Melissa Price tested positive for THG during the 2003 U.S. championships, a source told the Associated Press.
