Take it from Marshall’s Charese “Tudy” Reed, Tuesday’s matchup with Young’s girls basketball team has been on her mind for a while.

“I’ve been waiting for the game since the summer,” Reed said.

All those months of anticipation paid off for Reed, who came up with 21 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals in a 58-53 Windy City Conference victory over the visiting Dolphins.

Both ranked teams–Marshall No. 7 and Young No. 11–needed a victory and not only because this was a conference game. They were coming off losses in the City-Suburban Shootout on Saturday.

Marshall (15-3, 5-0) led for all but 16 seconds in the first quarter but didn’t take complete control until the fourth quarter when the 5-foot-10-inch Reed scored 11 of her points. Most of the time she was operating in the post against 6-3 Danielle Campbell, who finished with 14 points and seven rebounds for the Dolphins (9-5, 3-2).

Janesha Washington added 14 points and Jessica Harris 12 for the Commandos. Amanda Thompson, held to two fourth-quarter points, paced Young with 19.

“I’m extremely happy with the way our team played,” Reed said. “This was so important. We played a smarter game.”
