Asian students at the University of Chicago will now be a part of the Provost’s Initiative on Minority Issues, which was created to study and enhance diversity on campus. African-American, Latino and Native American students already were part of the group, but Asian students hadn’t been included because the initiative was created to study groups that were underrepresented on campus compared to the national population.

Many UIC students are frustrated with rules at two new dorms on campus, the Flame campus newspaper reports. Though the Thomas Bekham and Marie Robinson residence halls for upperclassmen are apartment-style and allow alcohol, only three guests are allowed in a room at any time. Also, non-residents must be accompanied by a resident and sign in at a security desk.

Tom Brokaw, anchor of “NBC Nightly News,” will give the commencement address at Northwestern on June 18, the Daily Northwestern campus newspaper reports. He also will receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters degree at the ceremony. Brokaw worked with Medill Professor Joseph Angotti on “NBC Nightly News.”

DePaul university will host a free event called Were You There?: A Meditation on Lynching on Friday night. The program, described as a “ritual of recognition and remembrance,” consists of slide projections of images of lynching victims, a cappella singing of spirituals, poetry and literary narratives on lynching.
