Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Poducer, DJ and record exec, Erick Morillo has had a massive impact on house music culture. He’s spun everywhere from his home base of Jersey to Ibiza, remixed everyone from Whitney Houston to Basement Jaxx, and put out some of the top electronica on his label, Subliminal. He took a break from his hectic schedule to chat with us.

Looking forward to the show at Vision?

Yeah, I’ve played there before and I really enjoy it. I’ve got a lot of new stuff to play, but then I have to catch a plane right after to do an after-hours in NYC on Sunday morning. It’s gonna be a long night and day.

You’re doing the Valentine’s Day gig at Vision. Do you like the holiday?

I have a love-hate relationship with Valentine’s Day. The fact that I’m not in a relationship right now is good because I can have several Valentines. If you are in a relationship, then I hate it because you have go out and do this whole thing and go out to dinner and it’s just horrible.

What DJs do you listen to?

One of my favorites is [Chicagoan] Derrick Carter. When he’s on point, there’s no one like him. He knows how to work the funky stuff, yet keeps it nice and tough for everyone. I’m also into the Who Da Funk guys. They do the four-turntables, two-mixer stuff, and they’re awesome.
