Jasper Zarzana, 70, of Waukegan, Feb. 17. Son of the late Virginia and Fortune Zarzana; beloved husband of Dr. Catherine Romano; father of Guy (Jeanne), Nikki (Leona), Eliza, Honoree and Andromeda (Brian); grandfather of Anne, Laura, Matthew, Aryeh, Tziporah and Theo; brother of the late Rose, Rosalie and Phillip; owner of devoted companion Buster. Born on a kitchen table on Chicago’s west side, he served in the U.S. Army in Armored Intelligence in the occupation forces, Germany. He worked in the architectural hardware business for over 30 years, retiring as V.P. of Edward Stauber Hardware. He was treasured by professional colleagues, as well as family and friends, for his quiet strength, generosity and integrity. He was a regular long-term supporter of the Nature Conservancy; appreciated canoeing, walking and watching wildlife; and was well known among local tennis circles.
