Taking the first step in an announced crackdown on illegal dumping in Harvey, Illinois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan and Cook County State’s Atty. Richard Devine filed suit this week against a salvage yard operator.
Willie H. Carter, Carter’s Excavating and Trucking, in the 200 block of East 157th Street, allowed a 30-foot-high, 300-foot-long pile of junk concrete and rebar to illegally accumulate in his salvage yard, the suit alleges.
Carter’s business is less than a block from a residential neighborhood and illegal dumping has been going on there since at least July 2001, the suit states.
The suit seeks to have Carter clean up the property and move the concrete heap to a proper disposal site. Carter could not be reached for comment Friday.
