As Americans begin to look more closely at our choices for leadership in November, is there any more important issue before us than our safety and security and that of our military personnel deployed overseas?
It’s time to think about whether our nation is better off now than before we invaded Iraq.
As I recall, we went to Iraq because Saddam Hussein, with weapons of mass destruction and strong ties to Al Qaeda, was an imminent threat to the United States.
We now know these fears were misplaced.
In their wake, Americans and Iraqis have suffered unspeakable horrors of war.
A menacing North Korea has been allowed to advance its nuclear arsenal.
And America’s credibility in the global community has been seriously damaged.
This did not have to be the case. America needs a commander in chief who thinks before he acts.
Come November, let all Americans consider that strength and wisdom are truly not conflicting values.
