The Orland Park Plan Commission this week approved plans for a proposed 150,000-square-foot Costco store, a Lexus car dealership and a new mixed-use plan called Orland Crossing for the former Main Place site.

If the Village Board approves, the Costco would be located on a 115-acre parcel at the southwest corner of 159th Street and Ravinia Avenue that would also include a residential development.

Lexus dealership owners Jean and Jack Kowalis are seeking to move the dealership’s headquarters across the street to the 8200-8300 block of 159th Street. As part of this plan, the dealership would serve as a test site for a new concept in storm-water detention.

If the Village Board approves, the car shop would serve as the first place in Orland Park using underground detention as part of its storm-water management plan.

Orland Crossing, at 143rd Street and La Grange Road, would include a mixed-use of retail, office and residential with 92 homes proposed for the project. Evanston-based Davis Street Land Co. is developing the parcel.

The board’s Planning and Economic Development Committee are expected to consider the proposals Aug. 23. If approved there, plans would then go to the full Village Board.
