Most golf shots don’t require FAA clearance. But then again, most don’t require a helicopter and 2,000 golf balls, either.
The Crystal Lake Park District Board of Commissioners has given the United Way of McHenry County permission to drop a load of golf balls at the driving range in Lippold Park as part of an Oct. 23 fundraiser.
The numbered balls will be sold for $10 each or $100 a dozen. Those that drop closest to flags on the driving range win prizes.
David Barber, United Way’s executive director, told the board recently that he called Federal Aviation Administration officials about whether there are restrictions on such an event.
“They said it’s OK, if it’s done safely.”
