In “Tips on surviving lakefront fun,” one paragraph begins with, “Although the city fines cyclists who ride on sidewalks . . . ” Oh really? Where? I see people riding on the sidewalks all over the North Side neighborhoods, from Lincoln Park to Edgewater, and not once have I witnessed anybody being pulled over and ticketed. That includes on residential streets where the car traffic may total one per minute.

I’ve never ridden on any sidewalk, and I ride my bike every day.

The lakefront is littered with signs warning that this behavior is illegal, yet it hasn’t deterred a lot of riders from flying down sidewalks. It is time for the city to put an end to this selfish behavior and enforce the law, before serious injury harms an innocent pedestrian.
