Kudos to the Tribune for its screaming headline proclaiming U.S. Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps’ bronze medal in the 200 freestyle: “Water fall; Phelps takes bronze in 200 freestyle; Spitz’s record out of reach.” It’s about time someone in the media exposed Phelps for the miserable flop he is. So what if he’s only 19? Most women gymnasts are far younger. So what if he lost out to the world record-holder and the defending Olympic champion? Third place is colossal failure. So what if he comes home with a few golds and other miscellaneous hardware? We were promised nothing less than eight golds.
