Team / 1st half RPG / 2nd half RPG

Sox 5.50 / 4.69

Cubs 4.60 / 5.24

Swift justice

First, Julian Tavarez is suspended

10 games after umpires found an unknown substance (believed to be pine tar) under the bill of his cap on Friday. Then, while appealing the suspension, he gives up a game-winning single to Cincinnati’s Darren Bragg on Tuesday night.

Expo hopeful

Baseball executives, headed in part by Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf, met with officials from Washington, D.C., on Tuesday as they pushed ahead with finding a new home for the Montreal Expos. They’ll meet with officials from Northern Virginia on Wednesday.

Wild-card races
