This is regarding “Rude mothers” (Voice of the people, Aug. 22), by Cheryl Hoekstra.
How ironic that Hoekstra should label women who breastfeed their children as being part of the “me-first” culture and then go on to say that she “chose not to breast feed my kids.”
How selfish and “me-first” is that?
I understand that breastfeeding is not always successful, but with all that science has told us about the benefits of breastfeeding, aren’t your children worth at least an attempt?
She suggests that it would be better to feed newborns in a public restroom stall. How revolting.
I wouldn’t feed a dog in a public restroom, let alone a new baby whose immune system has not fully developed.
She compares breastfeeding to changing a child’s diaper in public.
There are vastly different issues with feeding a child and cleaning excrement from a child.
A bathroom is the appropriate place to change a diaper.
Even if she is comfortable eating her lunch in a public restroom stall, I wouldn’t recommend children of any age eat there.
