John W. Sheldon, died Aug. 27, 2004 at his home in Longwood, FL. He was born June 12, 1911 in Chicago. Mr. Sheldon was the retired chairman of Chas. A. Stevens & Company, he was the past chairman of the State Street Council and served on the Chicago District of the Federal Reserve Board as well as a number of other boards. Mr. Sheldon grew up in Glencoe and graduated from Dartmouth College, Class of 1932. During WW II he was a Lieutenant in the Navy. After retiring from Stevens in 1975, he and his wife moved from Chicago to Florida. Mr. Sheldon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Majorie, nee Mercer; father of Ted, of Darien CT, Barbara Putz of Barrington IL.; brother of Elizabeth Wilson Hinschliff of Winter Park FL.; grandfather of six; great-grandfather of two; preceded in death by brother James and a grandson.
