Myra Evelyn Cayten, age 77, resident of Winnetka since 1971, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 2004 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. A native of Lumberton, MS, Myra received a degree in nursing from Birmingham Baptist Medical Center, Birmingham, AL and a degree in anesthesia from the Barnes Hospital School of Anesthesia, St. Louis, MO. Prior to her retirement in 1995 she was a nurse anesthetist at Evanston and Highland Park Hospitals and then for 33 years at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago where she was Chief CRNA from 1985 to 1990. She was also professionally affiliated with Ravenswood School of Anesthesia, Trinity Hospital, M.C. Anesthesia Services and the Superior Medical Service. She was a member of the Winnetka Womens Club, the Association of Registered Nurses and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. Myra is survived by a loving family, sisters, Oneta V. Cayten of Chicago, Sylvia V. Flinn of Wilmette and Donna C. Higgins of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Wendell K. Catyen of Biloxi, MS; 10 nieces and nephews; 15 grandnieces and nephews; three great-grandnieces and nephew. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2004 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Wilmette. In lieu of flowers the family requests any memorial tributes be made to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or a charity of choice.
