As practice wound to a close this week, coach Randy Walker had his Wildcats working on some time-crunching field goals, with personnel rushing on the field, players setting up and, most importantly, kicker Brian Huffman knocking through three-pointers under pressure. The message: In a pinch, with the game on the line, Walker will be turning to Huffman, who struggled with five misses in six tries in the double-overtime loss at Texas Christian.

“We’re going to run him out there six times against Arizona State if we have that opportunity,” said Walker, who has talked with Huffman privately about fixing problems of not hitting the ball as well as either would like. “He’s going to be the guy and he’s going to correct the problems. It’s easy to blame one guy, but a whole lot of us had chances to make a difference [at TCU]. All of us. He just stands out there alone. We need to learn what we did wrong and we can be a pretty good team.”
