Whether it was writing an article, sketching a portrait or acting in a play, Daniel Robert White enjoyed expressing his creativity. He also liked learning, and after tiring of working in public relations he turned to computer programming. “Basically he was self-taught,” said his wife, Cheryl. Mr. White, 47, of Hoffman Estates died of cancer Sunday, Sept. 12, in St. Alexius Medical Center, Hoffman Estates. He was born in Chicago and raised in Rolling Meadows. He graduated from St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights, where he had the lead role in the musical “Guys and Dolls.” He received a bachelor of arts degree from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb in 1980 and took a public relations job at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. In 1983, he married Cheryl Knigge. They moved from Palatine to Hoffman Estates in 1987. For the last seven years, Mr. White was a computer programmer at Zurich North America in Schaumburg. At Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palatine, he was youth director; leader of the Immanuel Angels, a father-daughter group; and set decorator for church musicals. He also was assistant coach for his daughter’s softball team. He loved sketching portraits in his spare time. In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter, Sarah; his parents, James and Ann; brothers Michael and Thomas; and a sister, Kathleen Murphy. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 200 N. Plum Grove Rd., Palatine.
