U.S. sprinter John Capel, the 2003 world champion at 200 meters, received a public warning following a positive test for marijuana that led to him being replaced on the U.S. 400-meter relay team in Athens. He tested positive in early August in Munich at a team competition between the U.S., France and Germany. Since it was his first such violation, he did not receive a suspension.

– Hungarian hammer thrower Adrian Annus has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport in a bid to keep the Olympic gold medal he lost after refusing to take a follow-up drug test. The IOC said Annus passed two drug tests on Aug. 22. Although both samples were clean, the analysis “showed evidence of belonging to two different athletes, indicating possible tampering,” the IOC said.
