Among the 40,000 runners who will take part in the 27th LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon on Oct. 10 is Roger Craig. The former San Francisco 49ers star running back made his marathon debut in June when he joined 16,500 other runners at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in San Diego. Craig, 44, said he runs an average of 32 miles and lifts weights three times a week. “Running is my passion,” he said. “I love it. It is my meditation, the way I jump-start my day.” Craig hopes to better his San Diego time of 4 hours 9 minutes 57 seconds. “I can’t wait. I have learned a lot from my first marathon experience,” he said. “Now I know what it’s like to reach that end-of-the-race barrier. I know where I need to be mentally.”
