Trustees have agreed to reconsider a plan they turned down earlier this month for a proposed shopping center anchored by an Aldi’s store after the developer revised architectural plans.
The plan for the Frankfort Commons at St. Francis Road and La Grange Road calls for an Aldi’s; National City Bank; two fast-food restaurants, Long John Silver’s and Taco Bell; and an unnamed sit-down restaurant.
The land is already zoned commercial, but trustees rejected the developer’s request for a planned unit development and special uses, such as a drive-through and extended hours.
Trustee Doug Walker said the redesigned architectural plans merit reconsideration.
After the requests were denied, the developer upgraded the appearance of the buildings, village officials said.
“I think the board did a good job of making lemonade out of lemons,” Mayor Ray Rossi said.
The board is expected to vote on the proposal Oct. 18. If it is approved, it would be the town’s second retail development on St. Francis Road. A Home Depot-anchored shopping center was approved earlier this month.
