Throw pillows are a great way to dress a naked couch.

In home decor, a pillow is the equivalent of an accessory in fashion, says Kenneth Wong, creative director for PlushLiving, a design manufacturer.

Adding a pillow or two is cheaper than a new couch or painting a room. And pillows come in loads of shapes, sizes, colors and price ranges. Some are meant to stay on the sofa, others can be tossed on the floor for movie night, and others, such as the embroidered initial pillow, are for pooches.

“Consumers are moving away from the bare, minimalistic home decor toward a home with more personality and comfort,” PlushLiving’s co-owner Shirley Chen says. “By adding accessories and small accent pieces, they can easily transform and personalize their living space.”
