In “Questions of conscience; Beyond abortion issue” (Perspective, Oct. 17), Robert McClory suggests Catholics ignore the abortion issue since “a workable prohibition” against the practice is “not obtainable now.”

I disagree.

Abortion ends a human life; it cannot be ignored, and the law must change.

Nevertheless I share McClory’s deep frustration with the Republican Party, which claims to be pro-life yet works to disenfranchise the poor, promotes warfare as a mechanism of peace and praises the death penalty.
