It is horrifying to learn that a full one-third of high school students do not understand, nor do they care about, the 1st Amendment to the Constitution (“Students say free speech goes `too far,'” News, Feb. 1). Apparently schools have not educated students on the Bill of Rights, parents have not instructed their children and our society in general has failed in the collective guidance of those students in one of the primary and basic rights of American citizens. We had all better teach a more thorough and comprehensive understanding of civics and government.
