Call me crazy, but upon hearing the news of Sammy Sosa’s departure from the Cubs organization forever, I was deeply upset. For about as long as I can remember, Sammy Sosa has been the face of the Cubs. And to just send him packing on such bad terms is very disappointing.
I know he wasn’t the best teammate and that he is not the player he once was, and the cork incident was bad, but I will miss seeing No. 21 sprint out to right field like a child playing a Little League game. As my math teacher said, Sammy made it fun to be a Cubs fan when it wasn’t fun to be a Cubs fan. He sent out an unparalleled energy to the fans. Every time his name was announced, everyone was always paying attention, hoping for a big home run. And whatever he did, I always was looking forward to his next at-bat.
Most of my friends are happy Sammy is out of here. They are all for the “addition-by-subtraction” strategy the Cubs’ front office was working on all winter. I, however, disagree with it. I am jealous of Orioles’ fans, as they have the joy of watching a truly great baseball player. I hope Sammy Sosa has a monster season in Baltimore. I always will root for him.
