Betty Elizabeth Snydacker, nee Stibbs, 94, died February 4, 2005 at Westmoreland Nursing Center, Lake Forest, Illinois. Betty Snydacker was born October 31, 1910 in Chicago, the daughter of John Henry and Bertha (nee Hemingway) Stibbs. She graduated from Austin High School, attended the University of Wisconsin, and graduated from Hope College in Holland, Michigan. She received nurses training at what is now Rush Presbyterian Hospital. With the exception of the time during World War II, when her husband served as an Officer in the Medical Corp of the United States Army, Betty spent her whole life in the Chicago area. After her marriage to Daniel Snydacker, she and her husband lived on the city’s North side. They then moved to Highland Park. Following the war they moved to Evanston, and eventually to Lake Forest. Betty was wonderful, warm, caring person. She was gracious, thoughtful, and compassionate and had a wisdom about life from which the entire family drew strength. She approached everything she did with style and grace. Throughout her entire life she was artistic and creative. She was a talented pianist, a skilled weaver, an avid jewelry maker, a knitter, and a seamstress. She was also an active volunteer throughout the North Shore and was especially committed to the League of Women Voters, the Weavers Guild of Lake Forest, and many other organizations. Betty particularly loved visiting the family cottages in Castle Park, Michigan with her sister Harriet, her beloved brother Jack, and the rest of the family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Snydacker, MD., and her son Harry. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Bregar, a son, Dan, Jr.; a sister, Harriet S. Meyer of Holland Michigan; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to the Hospice Partners of Lake Forest, The Nature Conservancy, or an organization of your choice. A service celebrating her life will be held in Lake Forest in March for family and friends. Wenban Funeral Home of Lake Forest was in charge of arrangements.
