How sweet it is: Best known for her role as ditzy Kelly Bundy from the ’90s sitcom “Married … with Children,” Christina Applegate has circumvented the dreary fate of many young TV stars (we love catching up with ’em on reality TV) and snared herself some impressive awards–an Emmy in 2003 and People’s Choice in 1999–proving that her talents go deeper than flawless skin. Now set to appear in the pre-Broadway engagement of “Sweet Charity,” a 1966 musical based on an original screenplay by Federico Fellini, Applegate plays Charity Hope Valentine, a dancehall hostess who can’t help but flop when it comes to love. (We agree: It’s hard to believe.) Classic, catchy tunes include “Big Spender” and “If My Friends Could See Me Now.” Tony Award-winner Denis O’Hare stars opposite Applegate; the show is directed by Tony Award-winner Walter Bobbie.
