A convicted sex offender was fired as a Target store security guard after police said he allegedly harassed a woman he raped nearly a decade ago.
Andre Johnson, 36, of the 4500 block of South Lamon Avenue, Chicago, was arrested Monday for misdemeanor assault and failing to register in Illinois as a convicted sex offender after the incident earlier that day in the store at 1154 S. Clark St., authorities said.
A 29-year-old woman told Chicago police that Johnson demanded her name and followed her out of the store into a parking lot, where he took her license plate number. She told police that she recognized Johnson as the man who was convicted for sexually assaulting her in Indiana more than eight years ago. She reported the incident to police, who later arrested Johnson.
Target stores said it was “appalled” by the incident and immediately terminated Johnson.
