For the lonely guys out there looking for just a little comfort, this might help. The Japanese company Trane KK recently released the Lap Pillow. Shaped like the bottom half of a kneeling woman, the foam pillow sells for about $90 in Japan.

Mitsuo Takahashi with Trane KK assured European news agencies that the need for a lap pillow is real. “From the time people were kids, people have laid their heads on their mothers’ laps to get their ears cleaned,” he said. “This is made to be quite close to the real thing.” Except in this case, “Mom” is wearing a miniskirt.

The pillow went on sale in November, and the company claims that thousands of the “relaxing” pillows were ordered immediately.

On another front in pillow technology is the Boyfriend Pillow. Cuddling your wife or girlfriend can be disabling once your arm goes numb, and it’s hard to slip away without notice. That’s where the Boyfriend comes in.

Made by Japanese linen company Kameo Corp, the $80 Boyfriend Pillow is a headless half-torso. The pillow’s arm is on a right angle, so she can snuggle solo. The pillow is geared toward lonely ladies, but married or similarly obligated men might find it helpful too. Let the pillow spoon your wife, and you can regain use of your remote hand.

The Boyfriend and the Lap are available for retail only in Japan, but we would expect both companies to go international soon. In the meantime, we found both on eBay.
