Cook County property taxes are due Tuesday, said Treasurer Maria Pappas in a reminder issued Friday.

Pappas urged taxpayers not to wait until the last minute to pay.

As of Friday afternoon, a half-million bills were still outstanding, which according to available data was a record with just three days until the deadline, Pappas said.

Along with the treasurer’s downtown and suburban offices, bills may be paid at Bank One branches, online or by mail. To pay online or for more information, go to www.cookcountytreasurer.com.

Payments that are not received on time will be assessed a fee of 1.5 percent for each month they are late.
