Conservatives are expressing moral indignation over the prospect of leaving huge budget deficits to our children and grandchildren.
I would be much more impressed by their concern for future generations if they were to express equal alarm over the fact that many of those same children are not receiving the adequate nourishment, health care, education and social-service supports necessary to reach healthy and productive adulthood. I would be even more impressed if those same conservatives were to show any inclination to raise the revenue necessary to fund these needed services.
