Eugene B. Finegan, age 87, passed away Wednesday, Feb 8, 2005, in Bozeman, MT. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Finegan Thompson of Jackson, WY and Margaret M. Finegan of Chicago, IL; and sons, David R. Finegan of Bozeman, MT and Thomas E. Finegan of Aurora, CO; and grandchildren Sarah and Emily Thompson of Jackson, WY and Benjamin and Melissa Finegan of Aurora, CO. Gene was born to Marie and Eugene B. Finegan on August 19, 1917 and grew up in Oak Park, IL. He was the second of three children. His sister and brother, Mary Van Nortwick and David E. Finegan, preceded him in death. Eugene married Charlotte P. Stutzel in 1951. He and Charlotte were residents of Glenview, IL. A World War II veteran, Eugene served four years in U.S. Army in the Philippines and Hawaii. Upon his honorary discharge from the military he was employed as a salesman for Walter Bledsoe Co. in Freeport, IL. In 1957 Eugene founded the Glenrock Company, a wholesale construction and construction specialty supply firm serving the greater Chicago area. Always, fair, ethical and honest, Gene made countless friends in the construction industry. In 1978 Eugene and Charlotte found fresh air in Jackson Hole. He and Charlotte were happily married until Charlotte’s death in 1983. Eugene shared his time with his family and friends, living in both Glenview and Jackson until 2000 when he took up permanent residence in Jackson. Gene enjoyed 13 years with his close friend and traveling partner, Irene McQueeny. He maintained his relationships in the Chicago area, Jackson, Bozeman and Aurora through visits, the telephone and correspondence. Eugene became a resident of St. John’s Living Center in 2000 and moved to Bozeman in 2004. Gene’s most treasured gifts were his family and friends, especially the many friends he made in the later years of his life. Funeral services will be held later this spring in both Jackson and Chicago. Dates will be announced. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to St. John’s Living Center, Jackson; or Mountainview Care facility, Bozeman.
