One wonders how Fox arrived at the name “Stacked” for the new Pamela Anderson sitcom that premieres Wednesday (7:30 p.m., WFLD-Ch. 32).

The show is set in a bookstore, so perhaps the name refers to the piles of books which are no doubt all over the shop. Just for laughs, let’s assume that’s the explanation.

Aside from the name, there’s not much we can tell you about “Stacked,” because last-minute reshoots meant that no preview tapes were available for the sitcom, which follows hard on the heels of Fox’s most recent and most unfunny comedy series, “Life on a Stick” (which is pre-empted Wednesday by a one-hour “American Idol” at 8 p.m. on WFLD-Ch. 32)

We do know that “Stacked” stars Anderson as Skyler Dayton, a party girl who takes a job at a mom-and-pop bookstore. Hilarity, no doubt, ensues. Or not.

As late as last week, the show’s cast was still in flux, which is usually not a good sign. In the role of divorced bookstore co-owner Gavin Miller, Tom Everett Scott has been replaced by Elon Gold. Better news is that Christopher Lloyd, mainstay of “Taxi” and countless movies, is still in the cast as a retired rocket scientist, and Marissa Jaret Winokur, a Tony Award-winning Tracy Turnblad in the original Broadway cast of “Hairspray,” still appears in “Stacked” as well.

Also Wednesday, “Jack & Bobby” (8 p.m., WGN-Ch. 9) returns from a monthlong break.

The story lines on this WB drama, which was originally oriented more strongly toward politics and social issues, sound more soap-opera-esque by the week: In this week’s installment, romance may be in the air for Courtney (Jessica Pare) and Jack’s friend Marcus (Edwin Hodge).

There’s no need to bother with “Lost” (7 p.m., WLS-Ch. 7), unless you haven’t seen the outing titled “Special”; the episode is a repeat.

If, as the 7 p.m. hour rolls around, you’re in the mood for a completely frothy time-killer, Fox offers the second-to-last episode of the current season of “The Simple Life” (7 p.m., WFLD-Ch. 32).

If that’s not enough Paris Hilton triviality for you, you could always check out the super-size, two-hour “E! True Hollywood Story” on the Hilton Sisters (7 p.m., E!).

Finally, Wednesday’s outing of the zippy private-detective drama “Eyes” (9 p.m., WLS-Ch. 7) is titled “Wings,” no doubt a tip of the hat to the comedy series that “Eyes” lead Tim Daly starred in for eight seasons.
