The former president of a Japanese subsidiary based in Schaumburg was sentenced to 63 months in prison Wednesday for stealing more than $7 million from his employer between 2000 and 2004.
Hisashi Shimizu, 48, former head of Toda America Inc., gambled much of the money away in Las Vegas and elsewhere, Assistant U.S. Atty. Brian Havey said.
U.S. District Judge David Coar also ordered Shimizu of Buffalo Grove to pay restitution of $7.36 million, the total he stole. Havey said authorities recovered between $500,000 and $600,000 when Shimizu was arrested in May while gambling in Las Vegas.
