A developer’s latest revision of the Naperville Crossings shopping plaza on the south side of the city drew questions about motive from Plan Commission members Wednesday.
Changes in the plan involve reconfiguring some shops fronting Illinois Highway 59 and curving Showplace Drive, a main road through the development.
Developer Midco Town Center LLC, of Oak Brook, said the changes give the retail portion of the project an urban feel and make the shops more pedestrian friendly.
“I am not sold that this is about walkability,” Commissioner Derke Price said. “I think it is about visibility to [Highway] 59. I think you have a lot of work ahead of you.”
Plan Commission Chairman Karl Fry questioned traffic flow into the main entrance of the site from Cantore Drive and asked that a traffic study be provided.
Naperville Crossings’ annexation agreement was approved by the City Council a year ago. The development will include a movie theater, shops, restaurants, medical offices and senior housing on 80 acres at the northwest corner of Illinois Highway 59 and 95th Street.
The Plan Commission continued the public hearing to April 27.
In other business, the Plan Commission approved for recommendation to the City Council a revised housing development plan for Paddocks subdivision at Book and Douglas Roads. The plan, by developer Oliver-Hoffmann Corp., calls for 32 single-family houses with one roadway access off Book and another off Douglas.
