Fox and NBC, which got strong ratings from the premiere of “Revelations,” duked it out for the top spot in Wednesday’s ratings.

NBC’s six-week miniseries “Revelations” received bad reviews and faced a supersized edition of Fox’s juggernaut “American Idol.”

But in the 8 p.m. time slot, “Revelations” averaged a 5.0 rating among 18-49s, well ahead of the 3.3 averaged by “The West Wing” in the same slot this season, according to Nielsen figures released Thursday. “Revelations” averaged 15.3 million total viewers to “Idol’s” 24.1 million, growing by 400,000 in its second half-hour.

NBC narrowly won the night among households, averaging a 9.6 rating to Fox’s 9.5. (Fox led in total viewers, 15.6 million to 14.3 million.) CBS was third at 5.6, followed closely by ABC at 5.5. UPN came in at 2.6 and The WB at 1.7.
