A temporary rule that requires Illinois pharmacists to dispense contraception without delay or hassle was upheld Tuesday by a state legislative committee.
Gov. Blagojevich issued the emergency order April 1 after some Chicago pharmacists refused to fill prescriptions for emergency contraception because they view it as a form of abortion.
A proposed permanent version of the Pharmacy Practice Act is pending.
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation will hold a public hearing at 10 a.m. June 2 at the Bilandic Building, 160 N. LaSalle St., to gather comments on the proposed rule.
The temporary order expires in mid-August.
