Die-hard “Star Wars” fans who camped out, dressed up and lined up for the finale of George Lucas’ saga pushed “Revenge of the Sith” to a box-office record.

In midnight Wednesday showings alone, “Sith” earned an estimated $16.5 million to $17 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“We’ll be counting the grosses for a while,” said Bruce Snyder, president of domestic distribution for Fox. “It’s an absolutely remarkable number.”

In Hollywood, fans who had spent recent weeks outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre got a special treat when Lucasfilm sent Darth Vader and a group of Stormtroopers to escort the hard-core fans to the nearby ArcLight theater, where “Sith” opened.
