MTV knows it goofed on Saturday’s Live 8 coverage and might even try to fix it with a do-over of the concert broadcast.
The network was criticized heavily for its decision to cut away from top-billed music acts in favor of talking heads, commercials or less-compelling performances. The network drew 1.4 million viewers, while sister station VH1, which showed the same program, had 762,000 viewers.
“Knowing what I know now, I probably would have made the decision to go commercial-free,” MTV Executive Vice President Van Toff told the Los Angeles Times. Toff hinted that a retooling of the program might be in the works, saying a rebroadcast was “not the craziest idea.”
