A gunman who robbed an Aurora bank Tuesday, carjacked a vehicle, then crashed it before running away remained at large, police said.
Aurora police said they responded to an alarm about 3 p.m. at the Amcore Bank in the 2500 block of North Farnsworth Avenue, where a robber reportedly approached a teller and demanded money as he displayed a semi-automatic handgun. The man left through the bank’s main entrance, carrying an undetermined amount of bills in a blue duffel bag, police said.
Once in the parking lot, the suspect, described as a male about 5 feet 7 inches tall who wore a mask over his face and a green towel over his head, approached a 2004 silver Mercury Sable occupied by a couple in their 50s, police said.
The suspect used his gun to break one of the car’s windows and demanded the car, police said. He then fled the scene, apparently driving the car east on Bilter Road before crashing in a ditch on Parkview Drive, where he escaped on foot, police said.
The suspect was wearing a brown, long-sleeve T-shirt with white symbols printed on the front, blue baggy pants, and white gloves.
