EVENT OF THE WEEK
ASME addresses global competition
The Chicago Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers presents “Globalization 2005: What Do We Do to Face the Competitive Future?”
David Steiger, adjunct professor at DePaul University, attorney and author, will discuss the shifting of American jobs, including engineering, to offshore locations and what the increasing competitiveness of people in the developing world means for us, as well as what adjustments U.S. policymakers need to enact. He will offer strategies for individuals to employ to take advantage of the economic changes.
The event takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Prime Minister Restaurant at 3355 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Northbrook. The cost to attend is $25 and includes dinner. To register, visit sections.asme.org/chicago/Sept-1-05.htm.
